Our Fund
Australia's #1 alternative fund in 2025 by Morningstar, built to preserve capital and deliver consistent, risk-managed returns for wholesale investors.
The Datt Absolute Return Fund is an actively managed, high-conviction Australian equity fund designed for wholesale investors who prioritise capital preservation over benchmark-relative performance.
Unlike traditional equity funds, the Fund is not constrained by index weights or sector allocations. Instead, capital is deployed only where the risk-adjusted opportunity is compelling, and held in cash when it isn't.
As of April 2026, the Fund has achieved:
Every decision starts with assessing downside risk. The Fund holds cash when markets don't offer compelling opportunities, protecting capital before compounding it.
Performance is measured against an absolute benchmark (RBA Cash Rate + 5%). The objective is positive, consistent returns across all market conditions, not benchmark-beating performance.
A concentrated portfolio of 10 to 20 ASX-listed positions, constructed without reference to index weights or benchmark constraints. Capital is allocated where conviction is strongest.
Proprietary, in-house research independent of broker recommendations. Every position is built on original analysis of balance sheet strength, valuation, and identifiable catalysts.
As of March 2026, the Datt Absolute Return Fund has delivered a net return of +184.98% since inception, ranking in the top decile of their respective peer groups and outperforming their industry benchmarks.
The Fund’s performance objective is to deliver consistent, risk-managed outcomes over a full market cycle, with a strong emphasis on protecting capital during periods of market stress.

The Datt Absolute Return Fund is designed to play a stabilising role within a wholesale investor's portfolio. Rather than maximising exposure to market movements, the Fund focuses on reducing volatility and limiting the risk of permanent capital loss. It is commonly held alongside traditional equity and growth allocations to smooth outcomes across market cycles, particularly during periods of market stress.
Capital preservation is central to every investment decision. Risk is managed through disciplined position sizing, liquidity analysis, and a focus on balance sheet strength and valuation support. The Fund avoids leverage, limits exposure to correlated risks, and holds cash when available opportunities do not meet the Fund's risk-reward criteria. Resilience is prioritised over short-term performance.
The Fund maintains a concentrated, high-conviction portfolio of Australian listed investments, unconstrained by benchmarks, sector weights, or market capitalisation. Capital is allocated wherever the most compelling risk-adjusted opportunities are identified. The portfolio adjusts exposures or moves to cash as market conditions change.
Traditional equity funds are managed relative to a benchmark, meaning performance is measured against an index rather than on an absolute basis. The Datt Absolute Return Fund targets absolute outcomes. Capital is not allocated based on index weights, and the focus is on delivering consistent, positive returns across different market environments rather than maximising gains in rising markets.
The Fund is available to wholesale and sophisticated investors under the Corporations Act 2001, generally those with annual income of at least $250,000 for the past two financial years, or net assets of $2.5 million or more. The minimum investment is $100,000. Investors must meet the relevant eligibility requirements and review the Fund's Information Memorandum before investing. The Fund is available to eligible investors in Australia and New Zealand only.
